The Story of Our Success: Giving to Givers

Guest Services

At Deep Roots, we believe the most powerful healing in massage therapy comes not just from technique, but from compassion, sincere care, and a generous spirit. When we started our business in 2013, our goal was to build a company that embodied those foundational ideals in every single interaction—with our staff, our clients, our partners, and our wonderful local community.

We had a hunch that if we invested in our community, you would respond in kind. And, of course, you did! 🙂

Will Massage For Food

When we first moved into our new office – with five rooms and only three therapists – right across Keene Farmers Market, the generosity of local farmers donating produce to the Keene Community Kitchen inspired us to want to get involved. The Deep Roots “Will Massage For Food” project was born and for the next 2 years, people who donated some of their farmers market produce purchases to the CKC could get free massages.

Tiny Check Campaign

As Deep Roots grew and got busier, we looked for other ways to expand our giving. Inspired by the tradition of larger businesses giving “Giant Checks” to local nonprofits, we wondered if we might inspire small businesses like ours to do the same on a grand scale.

While our idea for “Tiny Checks” didn’t exactly become a nationwide fad, it led to the creation of a lasting policy: we proudly donate 2% of our gross profit to support local organizations focused on health and human services and the arts.

Do Good, Feel Good

From 2014-2021 our beloved “Do Good Feel Good” holiday gift certificate campaign raised over $30,000 for the Monadnock United Way. And throughout our history, high level involvement in meaningful community fundraisers from our local cancer center’s Bald Is Beautiful to the Clarence DeMar Marathon has become part of our DNA.

Offshoots

In 2022, Deep Roots Therapist Juniper Thurston, suggested that it might be a good idea to incorporate massage therapy into our charitable effort. And to make a long story short this was the beginning of our own 501(c)(3) non-profit, Offshoots. Today, Deep Roots Offshoots provides two free massages for the primary unpaid caregivers of hospice patients.

Like so many great local businesses around the Monadnock region, we’ve found a simple truth: the more we give, the more we seem to receive. So many of our beloved clients first found Deep Roots by being involved with great charities, and our staff takes special pride in knowing that they are active participants in community wellbeing.
